Communities are an important factor in establishing change in multiple societal domains. For instance, communities are considered to be a driving force in the energy transition, support for climate-change adaptations, urban transformation processes, and transitions in health. Knowledge on community development is essential for a multitude of societal challenges. Even though there is some evidence that community development impacts outcomes on the individual-, community-, and organisational level, effectiveness of community development is understudied. The European Community Research Consortium aims to become the multidisciplinary network with expertise on communities, community development, and community-based research where knowledge on these topics is exchanged and enlarged. The main pathway to achieve this is by participating in European projects.
The four partner organizations of the consortium (Fontys UAS, Thomas More UAS, SDU, IRIS-CC) will each contribute unique, complementary knowledge on communities, community development, and community-based research, combining interdisciplinary knowledge from social studies sciences, community psychology, policy sciences, and life and health sciences.
The aims for the consortium are to participate in the proposed 'European Partnership on Social Transformations and Resilience under Horizon Europe' program (impact areas 1 or 4) or another European grant program, to build a future-proof consortium that is able to participate in European research projects in which communities, community development, and/or community-based research feature, and for the further future to be the European partner consortium for others who want to include communities, community development, and/or community-based research in their European proposals.
